About The Center
The mission of The Hampshire College Lemelson Center (HCLC) is to provide students with an experiential education in applied design, invention, and social entrepreneurship through engagement in applied design problem solving for social responsibility. In short, a hands-on shop where students can design and fabricate products and start businesses with an eye toward providing a benefit to society. HCLC activities include courses, training sessions, internships, and collaborations with businesses and non-profit organizations. Many of our students and alumni design, develop, and make available products and services for underserved people worldwide.
